Exploring language through generative methods. A permutation of absurd demands and digital artefacts.
›Per(l)mutare ad absurdum‹ explores protest language and resistant design through generative methods. The web-based protest generator permutates slogans, impositions and hype neologisms. Some are taken from current media and social discussions, others from the book ›Das Beste an Deutschland. 250 Gründe, unser Land heute zu lieben‹. Mixing and mashing the status quo and a certain, dominant – white, boomer, majority perspective, the tool aims to baffle, divert interpretation and bestow inspiration.
Based on the creation process of natural pearls, a multi-layered system is established in the design, in which individual pearls function as resistant pixels. The layering of the pixels – similar to the layers of mother-of-pearl – symbolises how individual elements become powerful, resistant symbols through continuous design interventions, visualising social change and the deconstruction of established narratives.
»We are currently experiencing something like the hyperpolitisation of trivialities and the depolitisation of the political.«
»Atomisation and acceleration go hand in hand: in the new century, people are lonelier, but also more agitated; atomised, but also more connected; angrier, but also more confused.«
The demand generator permutes slogans ranging from phrases and perceived impositions to hype neologisms in a rapid acupuncture of trigger points. These unpredictable variations encourage users to critically scrutinise existing forms of political communication.
